Somewhere in between a video ruining the song and being so boring that it's unnecessary falls The Dodos, their comforting low drum beats that tie their entire discography together and their video for Long Form, a track from the group's third studio effort "Time to Die".

the video ruins the song? wow, what power a "boring" video has.
that's not...no.
um
ex. if you watch Cornerstone by the Arctic Monkeys, you'll see. It ruined the song because it made it into a joke.
Other than that, boring videos seem unnecessary to me. They're opposite ends of the scale.
i liked Cornerstone...
you are entitled to your opinion.
as the director of Longform, i craved more constructive criticism than "boring" so thought you could elaborate.
I liked Cornerstone too, thought it was clever and all but it polarized the tone of the original recording from serious to comical.
re: Dodos. I don't find this one boring! It was just a statement about music videos in general..so expanding on what makes a boring video would be irrelevant in this case. This video is neither boring (unnecessary) nor, erm, ruining.
That being said, I think this video matches well with the song and The Dodos in general. The cinematography is aesthetically pleasing and it's well composed, but I didn't really pick up on the artistic intentions.
You being the director, I'd love to hear what you have to say about it.
Thanks Jiff - I appreciate your thoughts. As the director, my thoughts come back to the quick turnaround and modest budget that inspired us to base the strength of the video on a simple idea shot well. The concept is the passenger experience of roadside patterns. My favorite section is the final 30-second arrangement of overlapping patterns. With more time, I would have gone deeper into that motif with a wider variety of elements. All in all, I feel we captured the energy of the song. And, I love constructive feedback, so again thank you... ~j
Interesting. Thanks for the insight.
