STROKES IV
More huge news! As confirmed by frontman Julian Casablancas on twitter, The Strokes' infamous fourth album is finally finished.
It could be a long, long time before any piece of this album package officially surfaces, but we can all sleep easy now knowing that the tracking has been completed.

A news update from The Strokes has confirmed that they are
currently working away on the fourth album at Avatar Studios in New York.
The album is being produced by Joe Chiccarelli (White Stripes, U2, Shins, Counting Crows) and engineered by long time friend Gus Oberg. Both are GRAMMY winning in their respective fields.
The album is expected to be released this year.

Strokes frontman Julian Casablancas' wife Juliet is expecting the couple's first child!
The photo above is the first to circulate (on tumblr), and it has been reported that the baby is due next month.
In other Strokes news, the band has definitely been in the studio recording the infamous fourth album. Julian may also be lining up some more solo shows. He's already signed up for Coachella Festival in April, but keep watch on his twitter for other live announcements.

Rant about The Strokes
I think it's like really, REALLY great that Albert Hammond Jr. bought a car and big house in the Catskills. (This is NME's idea of a good Strokes news story.) Ugh. There's been absolutely no new information on this alleged fourth album.

For all of you Strokes buffs, here's a version of You Only Live Once, with some "rare" lyrics. (it's actually just a mix between the final album cut and the softer piano-accompanied demo, I'll Try Anything Once)
In other Strokes news, Ripcord News (formerly isthisitx.com) predicted a mid 2010 release, but it's possible that the date would actually be earlier. It's hard to know, but Julian, the frontman, told Rolling Stone that there are already three songs written that sound like a blend of of 70s and futuristic styles. Thin Lizzy and Elvis Costello were cited. That's the gist, read the NME article here.

after a long and much needed hibernation period that saw many of the band's various other musical projects emerge, we're pleased to announce that The Strokes are now all back hard at work in their NYC space on writing and rehearsing new material for a 4th full-length album, the first since 2006's "First Impressions of Earth".
no recording studio time has been booked yet, as they sketch out the blue-prints of new songs and fine tune plans in their rehearsal space, but it will undoubtedly be all mapped out and etched in stone at some point in the not-too-distant future. i wish i could tell you that this DEFINITELY meant we can expect an album release date before the end of 2009, but it's just too soon to speculate on that for sure yet. one way or another.... suffice to say, the work has begun!

Did You Thank The Strokes Today?
The Strokes have done so much for this decade's popular music. You know that, right? Musically they've influenced every young/hopeful British band post 2001, and others internationally of course. They modernized rhythm guitar and made the retro fuzzed out sound cool again. Seriously though, the final cut of Last Night sounds like a home recording:

Next...style. Major cities (US ones at least) are full of blazers, vintage tees, converse and skinny jeans. It's their fault.
Then there's their 'I don't care' attitude. Unfortunately, new bands can't have the same. Record companies are looking for business savvy people to sign. It worked for The Strokes because they were in the right place at the right time, when all is said and done. It's a major part of their appeal.
I'm just happy that they're getting back "together again, like the beginning, it all works somehow in the end."

Remember Luke's (guy in the wagon), Skeleton Me & Pool Party Fun? I'm dying for an MP3! One of the few slower/sadder I love. Whoever taped this cut off the first verse, but it's still good.
Also from the same gig, a nice Animal Collective Cover of a very, very good song off of Strawberry Jam, 'Fireworks'. From reading the comments, I think that's Luke's sister but not sure.

Through various means I've found out some more details about The Strokes' recent activities.
Isn't that exciting?! That's, um...7 days from now!
Julian did a thing for Andy Samberg's new comedy band The Lonely Island. Track is called Boombox. Should be good, even though he collaborations are...yeah. [ty, FK!]
As reported, The Strokes will enter the studio in February to begin writing the follow up to 2005's First Impressions of Earth. Albert Hammond Jr. recently told Rolling Stone that session will happen on "February 11th at 2 o'clock."
